Miracles never stopped for many of us that participated in that
adventure, even after returning home! That particular time period was
extraordinary for the players, but it was equally important to the
parents and fans that supported us, as they continue to talk about it as
well.
Since
I was one on the young ones on the team at the time, I still had a long time
to go before I even graduated from San Gabriel High School. After graduating
I went to college a bit, served in the military, returned to college
receiving a partial scholarship for soccer. I have been a special education
teacher working at the middle and high school level serving at-risk
students, mostly emotionally disturbed and conduct disorder. Before teaching
and during teaching I have coached sports at various age groups and ability
levels in basketball, soccer, and volleyball.
For
me, that “Cinderella” experience still rings through today. I have always
been extremely passionate in everything I do. Working with the students over
the years I have had phenomenal success. I have had the pleasure of
traveling a bit and experiencing people, places and events. The glass is
still full as I am still living the “Cinderella” dream!
Monica, I would personally like to thank you for always being the
leader, even now you still are the one! I appreciate what you are doing
to keep the memory alive and share with others that anything is still
possible.
